Outgoing NRD Atlanta Commanding Officer CDR Steven Maxwell with Council VP Legislative Affairs Don Giles
While the formal ceremonies would follow on 10 August 2017, the Atlanta Metropolitan Council Navy League of the United States took the opportunity to host a Hail & Farewell ceremony on 1 August. Council members and friends honored outgoing NRD Commanding Officer CDR Steven Maxwell and incoming NRD Commanding Officer CDR Kim Y. Green. Also, attending was Executive Officer CDR Steve Schultz. The ceremony was held at Max Larger’s in Atlanta.
Council President Harley Jones who, on behalf of the Council presented a specially commissioned print of President Jimmy Carter and the USS Jimmy Carter. The print was autographed by President Carter.
CDR Maxwell will be relocating to San Diego to take on the job of Weapons Officer aboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt and will be deploying on a 10 month cruise. It just so happens that LCDR Paul Ritter, a native of Powder Springs, GA, who graduated from Harrison HS and the North Cobb-Harrison NJROTC unit in 2001 will also be aboard the Roosevelt. He is an Electronic Warfare Pilot.
