Three of our members were spotted at this year’s 2016 Navy League National Convention.
On Wednesday June 15, South Atlantic Council Region President Jeff Alexander had the opportunity to help the Navy League raise $3000 for Fisher House. This is a non profit organization that provides safe housing for military dependents who are taking care of their family member who is being treated in a military hospital.
This housing is provided at no cost to the family. That can be a tremendous benefit to the family as some are in the Fisher House for weeks at a time.
This check was presented to Fisher House Charleston representatives Truxton and Durbin Emerson at the Navy League National Convention in Charleston. Fisher House will break ground on their Charleston Facility this fall.

On Thursday June 16 Council board member and our photographer, Danny Camp, ran into RADM Cari B. Thomas, the new Navy League executive director effective July 1. Thomas is currently finishing her military career as the Coast Guard’s assistant commandant, Human Resources. She previously served as the commander of the Coast Guard’s 14th District in Honolulu, Hawaii. A 1984 graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, she has more than 20 years of leadership, human resources, education, training, operations and public relations experience. She will be a strong addition to the NL team and will work with all councils to help sustain and develop membership.
Welcome RADM Thomas to the Navy League staff!
Also on Thursday, on behalf of the Atlanta Metropolitan Council, board members Don Giles and Danny Camp stood up to receive the 2015 Meritorious Council Award. Presenting the award is Navy League National President Skip Wituski.
